screencasting

Before class on wed oct the 22nd I never heard of the term screen casting and I had no clue of what it was. So for this learning journal I decided to find an article to give me alittle more information about the world of screencasting. I found an article intitled 7 things you should know about screencasting (http://net.educause.edu/ir/library/pdf/ELI7012.pdf) . While in class I leaned that screencasting is something like a podcast but from the reading I learned much more. From the article the main things that I thought was beneficial for masc491 was the significance of screencasting , screencastings downsides and its future. In which the article touch all three of these aspects and much more.On the aspect of the sifnicance of screencasting the article mentions that it provides information that students can watch at their convience which they can watch as many times as they need to . Which may help students who may learn a topic slower then others. Because they have the opprotunity to view it multiple of times and becuase of its constant viewing it is imbedded in the mind and will maybe produce a better understanding of coarse materials and improvement of grades .
But just as the significance is important to intake of info for students , this main concept could be its biggest drawback. The article states that because its not interactive could be its downfall. Even though screencasting offers a chance for multiple views it is still un-beneficial because it is still missing teacher and student interaction and even any hands on activity that may be useful in the learning process. Sometimes for many students like myself it's beneficial when you have visual instead of audio examples on how to perform a problem. So this opinion leads to the final aspects of screencasting where is it going.
Basically in a nut shell the article mentions that because of the"straight forwardness of screencasting tools offer a student with the formality and comfort of IT task and screencasting can personalize any learning experience where students are remote from there teacher. This could be especially helpful with students who cant come to class do to physical disabilities. All in all screencasting is a pretty OK concept it offers the student and the teacher with new and even an exciting way of teaching and learning a subject.
