wikis

ok I have a general knowledge on what wikis are and how they work. While searching the Internet i found this article about the five ways wikis can be used and how a business can benefit from them. I found this article interesting because it brought another prospective to the idea of using wikis. Instead of using wikis for random purposes it can be used to help something like a major company benefit and grow. The article breaks down wikis into five simple effective uses which are project management , customer/client collaboration , documentation, online community and policies/facts.
The uses that really caught my attention the most was the idea of using Wikis as a tool for project management. Reason being is because wikis can be alter or changed. The article mentioned that"A wiki is ideal for project management because it provides a central hub to:
• Organize everything in one place so people can see an entire project.
• Streamline work flow and reduce reliance on email and documents that can easily get lost and confused with older versions.
• Inform everyone about the progress of the project, so people don’t have to worry about whether it is on schedule.
• Involve everyone. This speeds up the overall process because it’s easier to incorporate feedback in-the-flow instead of after the fact.

In away the fact that info can be change or altered is beneficial because one of the key points states that everyone can get involve , which means if one team member is on the wrong page and member can come in a fix the mistake.

What did shadae learn this week?

Lets see I learned that jing was a somewhat ok screencasting tool but Camtasia maybe better for what we are doing in class because Jing is something like the short and easy way to make a screencast but it isn't the most beneficial. I also learned screencasting is an affective way of learning and teaching course materials. It isn't complex and very simple. I would love to have a class in which screencasts were used. That way could sit at home and watch youtube everyday. I also learned that society is really being consumed with digital media and how we Google isn't the only thing making us stupid , the entire digital world is . Time to handout some dense hats. Go Media ! LOL

screencasting

Before class on wed oct the 22nd I never heard of the term screen casting and I had no clue of what it was. So for this learning journal I decided to find an article to give me alittle more information about the world of screencasting. I found an article intitled 7 things you should know about screencasting (http://net.educause.edu/ir/library/pdf/ELI7012.pdf) . While in class I leaned that screencasting is something like a podcast but from the reading I learned much more. From the article the main things that I thought was beneficial for masc491 was the significance of screencasting , screencastings downsides and its future. In which the article touch all three of these aspects and much more.On the aspect of the sifnicance of screencasting the article mentions that it provides information that students can watch at their convience which they can watch as many times as they need to . Which may help students who may learn a topic slower then others. Because they have the opprotunity to view it multiple of times and becuase of its constant viewing it is imbedded in the mind and will maybe produce a better understanding of coarse materials and improvement of grades .
But just as the significance is important to intake of info for students , this main concept could be its biggest drawback. The article states that because its not interactive could be its downfall. Even though screencasting offers a chance for multiple views it is still un-beneficial because it is still missing teacher and student interaction and even any hands on activity that may be useful in the learning process. Sometimes for many students like myself it's beneficial when you have visual instead of audio examples on how to perform a problem. So this opinion leads to the final aspects of screencasting where is it going.
Basically in a nut shell the article mentions that because of the"straight forwardness of screencasting tools offer a student with the formality and comfort of IT task and screencasting can personalize any learning experience where students are remote from there teacher. This could be especially helpful with students who cant come to class do to physical disabilities. All in all screencasting is a pretty OK concept it offers the student and the teacher with new and even an exciting way of teaching and learning a subject.

youtube

Youtube has become a one of the biggest social mediums in the world. It mad think of the effects youtube has on the television networks. So i found this article that stresses the improvements of ratings for CBS caused by youtube. "CBS announced today that viewers are flocking to their TV shows after seeing the clips on YouTube. “Letterman” has gained 5 percent (or 200,000 new viewers), while “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” is up 7 percent (or 100,000 viewers) since the CBS YouTube channel debuted a month ago. They’ve uploaded 300 clips so far, which have averaged 857,000 views per day in total - that’s 29.2 million views on YouTube this month. It’s also worth noting that YouTube takes that content to millions of viewers outside of the US who can’t access CBS normally." http://mashable.com/2006/11/21/the-youtube-effect-cbs-gets-massive-boost/

podcast brainstorming

It's late and i'm trying to brainstorm some great pod casting ideas. I'm thinking something fun and exciting and definitely doesn't bore the audience to death. I'm thinking of a funny skit on Internet hackers / privacy. It's still in the making and hopefully it comes out the way I want. I think this will be the funniest homework assignment I ever had to date. I like the idea that our podcast will be post for every and any one to hear and thinking I'm digging this podcast thing. LOL

podcast of interest

The podcast that i found interesting was the Man and Wife podcast. To me the show is interest and entertaining so I knew the podcast would be even better. This podcaast is different from many because it's a man and his wife answering random sexual health questions there audience may have. This is what make s it effective because their normal people not therapist who know how to answer what some may think as uncomfortable questions by making it fun and entertaining. Check it out its entertaining .

pocasting for dummies

Podcasing what is and how can I make my own. Are some of the questions the masc 491 is face with. In my mind I'm thinking what is a podcast really is it a how to video or could it be out takes of shows. Mainly a podcast can be about many interests. So , i found this article that I had post delicious about a week ago I believe. The article was entitled"Beginner’s guide to podcasts and podcasting (plus: how to create a basic podcast of your own)" it's basically bringing down podcast from top to bottom. One of my main interest about podcasting was creating my own and this article gives you step by step of creating your own podcast. It tells you more then just you need content , computer and a mic. It goes in depth , the article gives a good tip by telling the reader to create a script. To be honest before reading this article and viewing tip i thought " ok I'm just going to basically freestyle on topic of my choice". But reading this it make since making script makes your podcast more organized and interesting. If you discuss a topic on impulse it makes your comments seem rambled.
